Journal

Week 1 - In our first week we have been watching and analysing music videos by using Goodwin's theory of music videos, this is so we can gain ideas when it comes to planning and shooting our music video.

Week 2 - For the second week our group decided on creating a music video for a pop boy band called 'Boyz 4 Now' and using the song 'It's Gonna Be Me' by 'Nsync'. We looked into what might make our band different from bans from the past such as 'Take That' and 'Backstreet Boys'. We decided on using an idea of that each band member has a different power throughout the video, Earth, Fire, Water and Air. This is because we wanted to use an aspect of the movie Twilight because it has been a huge hit to our target audience.

Week 3 - For the third week we have started on creating a questionnaire and doing an audience profiling, this is so that we can have a better aspect and understanding of our target audience.

Week 4 - This fourth week has mainly been about the storyboarding, what ideas we have created to use in the video, how we could use different micro-features in the video, to try and use a wide variety of shots and angles in the video.

Week 5 - In the fifth week we have finished creating the storyboards and starting creating the animatic for the music video. We have also started gathering RECCE photos of the places where we are going to film.

Week 6 - The sixth week was mainly about us creating our digipack's for our band.

Week 7 - In the seventh week we had to change the idea of the video due to a group member leaving, we managed to changed the story of our video and still keep the elements of a 'Twilight' like video using our powers of water, fire and earth.

Week 8 - This week we are focusing on getting the filming done as soon as possible so we can start editing the final video piece.

Week 9 - In this week we are filming our music video and uploading most of the footage onto final cut for editing.

Week 10 - This week we are editing the footage that we filmed last week and also filming the rest of the footage that starts off the music video. Once the filming is done we should be close to finishing the editing the video.

Week 11 - We have almost filming for the music video and now have almost completely finished the editing, we just need to film us dancing but with close ups because our video consists of too many mid and long shots which we will be filming tuesday 13th december.

Our group decided to create a t-shirt and hat product for the merchandise of our band, we decided this because these products are the most common clothing for a boy band.
This is an idea of how our name would look if we had it printed onto t-shirts. We would have the font of our logo on the shirt for the real version. A way to progress this piece of advertisement would be to do different images on the shirts. For example, we could have a band image on the front. Or have individual band members on the front.
Other forms of advertisement could include posters, with similar styles that are on the the t-shirts. We could aslo look at doing stationary for those teens who are still in school. Bags would also be a good form of advertisement. These are all good for our target audience because these are all things that teenagers have at that age.

Jay-Z & Linkin Park Digipak Analysis

Digipak Lesson

A digipak is a CD which has a cardboard cover with artwork from the artist photoshoot/music video promotion.

The codes and conventions are that the artist would relate to the music video and their image from the style/make of the digipak. The track list on the back of the case, the record label, the barcode, the artists name and album title on the spine of the album, DVD logo for the music video.

A record label would release a digipak rather than a CD jewel case because it is cheaper to produce, it is good to use for promotional copies.

The consumer would prefer to that the album was a digipak because it is smaller and lighter than a CD jewel case and also that it would not break as easily.

Analysis Of Videos Of Our Chosen Brief (Codes & Conventions)

Music videos that have the same codes and conventions as our brief for the 'Boyz 4 Now' music video 'It's Gonna Be Me':

Take That - It Only Takes A Minute:

Backstreet Boys - Everybody (Backstreet's Back):

N Sync - Bye Bye Bye:

Throughout the music videos we can see the bands are doing dance routines which we would apply to our music video so that we keep to the key concepts of a pop boy band music video.
In the videos above we can see that each band member has a different image which is shown through either what they might be wearing differently or how they act in the video. In 'It Only Takes A Minute' by Take That, we can see that when the shot is of the boxing ring with the band. In the front are Gary and Robbie singing the song with Mark, Jason and Howard in the background, this would be a signifying shot of that Gary and Robbie are the more serious members of the band because they are not dancing around like the others.
Although the band members may all have a different image to each other they all still have the same dress sense as each other so that they still fit into the pop boy band stereotype category.

We will try to use these aspects of pop boy bands in our music video so they we can also fit the image of pop boy bands.
